VISUS helps the visually impaired to orient. An integrated miniature camera permanently scans the environment, which is depicted on a palpable relief display in real time, or can be translated into speech by a special software if required. A warning system based on sonar technology checks for and identifies obstacles. Additionally, GPS conveys information about the current location to the user. A palpable display communicates all information through text in Braille or a relief-like city map.
